About Five Ideas Writing
Five Ideas Writing was founded in 2007 in New York City. It has since relocated to the mountains of Montana. Five Ideas is a one-woman content development and content strategy business that is dedicated to helping companies of all sizes produce and organize helpful, interesting, unique, and optimized copy – from blog entries to newsletters to video scripts.
Wait, why five ideas? Why not four or six ideas?
When I was earning my graduate degree, one of my writing teachers read a story I wrote, tossed it onto the table and said, “You went with your first idea. The thing about first ideas is that someone’s always thought of them before. First ideas are never original. Sit down and think long and hard. Go with your fifth idea – that’s when you’re in fresh territory.”
The lesson of the fifth idea has never left me. When I write content for my clients, I never jump at the first idea, I never copy what the competition is doing, and I never choose my content strategies based on what’s simply the norm. It might take a little more time and effort, but by getting to that fifth idea, I’m giving my clients fresh, innovative, and truly unique work.
I’m Sarah. I graduated from Grinnell College with an English degree in 2004 and from the University of Montana with a master’s degree in creative writing in 2006. After graduation, I moved to New York City, where I worked in the marketing division of an international publishing company. While I loved writing marketing copy, my real wish was to work for myself (and live somewhere that had trees). In 2008, I took a deep breath, moved back to Montana, and started growing my business. I haven’t looked back since.
I love to read, cook, hike, camp, and cross-country ski. I have a husband and a daughter.
